Go to Pig Ate My Pizza! I waited too long to get to it. It’s a “hoot”!
Great food, great ambiance! What more can you ask for!
It’s on Main Street, Robbinsdale, in a wonderfully eclectic flavored town. If you’re familiar with small town life, walking around Robbinsdale can be truly nostalgic. Gas station, funeral home, restaurant, bakery, hardware store (a real one), Dairy Queen and bank all within a three-minute walk!
Parking is easy on Main Street, but the entrance is actually in the back, past necessary dumpsters and a short colorful alley.
This restaurant is chef-run, there’s no greeter at the door, you just have to find a spot at one of the communal tables, make some friends and prepare for pizza unlike anything else you'll find in town.
The “Piggy” is their most popular dish. Salty pepperoni, bacon, prosciutto, and ham cubes are piled on a buttery, brioche crust. Though tasty, the “Piggy” was maybe a little too rich and heavy. But I loved it.
At Pig Ate My Pizza, the restaurant crew gets into the action, lots of fun! Sometimes the Chefs and wait staff sing along with cheesy tunes from the 80’s. Everything in this place is fun, including a round-table booth all carpeted for spontaneity and hi-jinks!
The idea of topping pizza with mussels, brussels sprouts, and chorizo sounds weird but works beautifully. The salt and pepper “nugs” - were chewy, intensely flavorful soy-marinated strips of pork flash-fried with a maple glaze.
Their basic crust is a traditional hand-thrown thin dough, puffy around the edges, with a gluten-free option available on request, but a couple of the pies are baked on a deep dish brioche dough.
There’s not much on the menu for non-meat-eaters, aside from a micro-greens salad and one vegetarian pizza, topped with artichokes, zucchini, and black truffle ($10), but the kitchen was very willing to accommodate if they can.
Pig Ate My Pizza does not take reservations. You can expect a wait of up to an hour, but not always, missing “the rush” is a good idea!
OK, to be honest, not everyone is going to love Pig Ate My Pizza like I do. While I will describe it as intimate, lively, creative and a “hoot”, others might find it crowded and loud, and may dislike sitting at community tables next to people they've probably never met. But, if you like “different” you’ll love it there.
