Minnehaha Parkway is one of the most popular trails in the Twin Cities, and for good reason. Its 12.6 miles following Minnehaha Creek leaves Lake Harriet at the southern end of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes and ends at Minnehaha Falls and Park where the creek flows into the Mississippi River. Along the way it passes through some of the most desireable neighborhoods in south Minneapolis.
One of the interesting things about this trailway is its variety. We followed it yesterday from a peaceful wooded creek valley on the west parkway, through beautiful residential neighborhoods and under I-35W, to street level parkway trails...
...under a beautifully blooming canopy of trees ablaze in all their glory just east of Cedar Avenue... finally arriving atop Minnehaha Falls.
Yesterday was a windy day, but most of the trail was sheltered and as usual the trail was filled with people out enjoying the day. I don't know the actual numbers, but I would guess this trail is second only to the Chain of Lakes in popularity. It is a key to defining the sense of place of Minneapolis and one of the reasons people love living here.
