The covered sheds of the Minneapolis Farmer's Market at Lyndale are filled with fresh produce, flowers and other items from April through mid-November and always seem to be bustling with activity. But not everyone knows that once that season is over the market is transformed into a winter wonderland of holiday trees and ornamentals.
It's a great place to shop for the perfect tree! I love how easy it is to search the rows and rows of trees trees hanging from the shed roofs to pick the one that is just the right size and shape!
By today's standards this may already seem late to be getting a tree, but I remember as a kid that we never got our tree until right before (or on!) Christmas Eve. Decorating the tree was part of the Christmas celebration itself. Then in contrast, for many years we celebrated Christmas with my husband's family Thanksgiving weekend...even sometimes at New Year's...so many different traditions...isn't it wonderful?!
This Lyndale location of the Minneapolis Farmer's Market first opened in 1937, but has roots that go back to 1876. Their hours are long during the holiday season...stop by any day until December 24th from 9 am to 9 pm. When I stopped by yesterday they still had a great selection of trees!

Just make note that anything south of 3rd is not part of the MFM and is a privately owned for-profit market that is not affiliated with the municipal Minneapolis Farmers Market. The Annex has not been around since 1937 in it's location.
