Accessibility

As I was entering a new listing last week it hit me that in addition to being a stunning complete renovation a significant feature of the home is the rear ramp that gives it handicap accessibility.

3108georgia-MLSrear1 Accessibility awareness is growing. One level living, with at least one bedroom and bath on the main floor, is a common consideration for empty nesters looking at downsizing or re-arranging their space as their family needs change. But buyers of all ages are also considering accessibility for visiting friends and family.

Our daughter and her husband have handicapped friends who cannot visit them at their home because of accessibility...and my mother cannot visit our home for the same reason...steps, steps and more steps! Our son built a portable ramp so she can get into their home, which has become our family gathering place because it is the only house in our family that is accessible for her.

While handicap accessibility may not be a requirement for most buyers, it can certainly be a plus...sometimes for reasons we may not even realize at the time. And a handicap ramp also makes a great stroller and bike ramp!

3108georgia-MLSkit1 By the way, the listing I mentioned above is a great St. Louis Park home in a great neighborhood at a great price... beautiful top-to-bottom renovation with stunning custom maple cabinets built by the owner's son who is a master cabinet maker... main floor family room, master suite... click here to learn more!
